Perspectives on Prevention – A Symposium on Problem Gambling 2004
Sutton Place Hotel, Toronto
The Perspectives on Prevention Symposium brought together representation from several different sectors and jurisdictions to learn and contribute to the prevention of problem gambling. The symposium format was designed to encourage dialogue and in depth exploration of the issues that collectively challenge us.

Topics included school and curriculum based prevention programs, industry initiatives, media campaigns, and what governments can do through policy and regulation. Participants heard from compulsive gamblers and treatment providers about their thoughts on prevention and from a panel of young adults who contributed their perspectives. Perspectives on Prevention also reached outside the problem gambling field to hear what other professionals could contribute to our knowledge of social marketing and effective programming.

The Symposium ended with a presentation and workshop by Dr.Carlo DiClemente who developed the stages of behavioural change with Dr. James Prochaska.

The Council would like to thank all those who attended and contributed to the success of Perspectives on Prevention. We look forward to incorporating the most popular elements of the symposium into the design of the Discovery 2005 Conference next spring! We hope to see all of you there!
